Welcome to the Hacettepe University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Occupational Therapy!
In our department, which is the first-ever department of Occupational Therapy in Türkiye, we are raising Occupational Therapists. Occupational Therapists aim to increase independence in daily life, competency in life roles and balanced participation in society in all age groups, using purposeful and meaningful occupations within Occupational Therapy intervention techniques. Occupational Therapists conduct assessments and interventions in three fundamental areas; person, environment and occupation.
Occupational Therapists, who prioritize social participation and the quality of life of individuals with and without health problems, can work in public and private sectors; in hospitals, special education and rehabilitation centres, healthy living centres, alcohol and dependency treatment facilities, public mental health centres, daycare services, home care services, palliative care services, retirement homes, factories, schools, prisons and correctional facilities, industrial work fields, preventive, treatment and rehabilitative health services.
In parallel with our university's motto, "To the Leading Edge, Toward the Best", our department always makes it a goal to reach the highest level of quality and it is the only Occupational Therapy Department to be accredited both on a national level with the Association of Evaluation and Accreditation of Health Sciences Programs (SABAK) and on an international level with the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) accreditations. Additionally, our department continues to represent Turkiye on an international level with its membership in the European Network of Occupational Therapy in Higher Education (ENOTHE).
The rich academic staff of our department continuously gives theoretical and practical education, carries out or takes part in research and development projects funded by both national and international institutions and provides societal benefits and contributions through professional practice clinics and laboratories.
Additionally, our department feels the utmost honour and joy of having established the first Vocational Rehabilitation Centre in Türkiye. Our department also offers educational opportunities and health services in its pediatric rehabilitation (including low-vision rehabilitation and sensory integration), oncologic rehabilitation, geriatric rehabilitation, neurologic rehabilitation, orthopaedic rehabilitation and psychiatric rehabilitation clinics and sub-departments. With all the educational obtainments in these fields, our students graduate as pioneers and leading figures in health care and occupational therapy.
