Mental Health Unit

Our department provides occupational therapy services for the patients with psychiatric disorders in Hacettepe University Hospital, Inpatient Clinic of Psychiatry (Ward 44). Working with treatment team of the clinic, occupational therapy evaluation and interventions are provided for people with various diagnosis such as depression and other mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and other anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, alcohol and substance dependence, marriage and adaptation problems, sexual problems, eating disorders and mental disorders in old age.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH, DIŞKAPI YILDIRIM BEYAZIT TRAINING AND RESEARCH HOSPITAL COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER

Community Mental Health Centers are health care facilities authorized by Ministry of Health that provide a coordinated program for people with chronic and severe mental disorders including Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders and mood disorders to give psychosocial support services to follow and treat patients in their living environments when need, within the framework of community based mental health model. An interdisciplinary treatment team made up of a psychiatrist, occupational therapist, psychologist, social worker and nurse provides the services in the community mental health centers. Our department, as a part of the interdisciplinary team, provides occupational therapy interventions within psychosocial rehabilitation for people mental illness.

Occupational therapy interventions in mental health include the following:

  • Help patients to develop coping skills for stress management and teach relaxation techniques
  • Provide sensory integration interventions
  • Improve skills such as reasoning, thinking, remembering, decision making, planning and problem solving through cognitive rehabilitation
  • Develop daily living skills such as money management, transportation, shopping, or preparing meals
  • Training in time management and activity scheduling
  • Increase social communication skills through group activities
  • Educate the client, family, caregiver or other involved individuals
  • Encourage the person to explore interests and develop leisure activities
  • Increase self-concept (sense of competence, self-confidence) through creative activities,
  • Provide vocational rehabilitation and increase social participation
