Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit

Pediatric Occupational Therapy Unit provides standardised assessments, weekly interventions and home follow ups follow ups for children with neurodevelopmental disorders including Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, Mental Motor Retardation, writing and fine motor skills problems, Down syndrome, a variety of genetic disorders, Developmental Coordination Disorder, and orthopaedic disorders such as tendon and nerve injuries etc.

Occupational therapy interventions are designed to meet each child’s specific needs using person-centered approaches and include followings:

 

  • Sensory, perceptual, motor, cognitive, psychological and psychosocial factors that may have an effect on normal child development are assessed by standardised tests. The social integration can be achieved through acquisition and development of the child’s sensory integration, perceptual motor skills, fine motor skills, daily living skills, posture and balance, as well as cognitive-perceptual skills, such as visual motor integration, spatial relations, attention, orientation and planning.
  • It is aimed that children build a sense of social roles available to them through improving independent living skills in the areas of self-care, play, academics and leisure.
  • By evaluating children to determine assistive technology needs, support and training are provided to enhance functional status for assistive technology options and use.
  • Taking into account the physical, social, cultural and institutional factors, therapy interventions are provided to promote and improve social participation in school, home and other settings where the child play and interact with others.
